One of the first things people are usually worried about when they consider working at a convenience store is the typically low hourly pay. These types of stores usually don’t pay much and they have a bad reputation for not providing adequate benefits.
I’m pleased to say Wawa is the total opposite of what anybody would expect.
In the following article, I will reveal:
- What Wawa pays for each of the entry-level and experienced jobs
- When and how often you get paid
- When you get your first paycheck

Wawa Pay
Wawa is one of those rare convenience store companies that pays its workers a fair wage according to industry standards. The entry-level jobs are very simple to learn and don’t require any experience.
Aside from periodic raises, you can start out as an associate, work hard, get promoted, and receive a nice bump in pay rather quickly.
This company gives its workers an opportunity for a career path to management that can compete with just about any other major retail store chain. It also offers a competitive starting wage for entry-level workers in a convenience store setting, at $10 to $11 per hour.
Wawa Full-Time Hours
Normally, full-time workers are assigned anywhere between 32 to 40 hours a week. There are many reports from past and present employees saying they have had to work many overtime hours to cover for other employees who routinely call out and are not as dependable as them.
Wawa Shift Hours
The following are examples of shifts you may work at Wawa:
- 6 AM to 2 PM

- 3 PM to 11 PM
- 10 PM to 6 AM
- 11 PM to 7 AM
Wawa Night Shift Hours
The overnight shift is usually from 10 PM to 6 AM or 11 PM to 7 AM. Workers report that sometimes you can leave at your scheduled time but that sometimes you have to stay an hour later to complete the work.
The overnight shift can be challenging, especially on weekends when people are out partying and drinking alcohol, then visiting the Wawa for meals and snacks. Therefore, this shift requires people who are tolerant of other people’s misbehavior and can deescalate difficult situations.
Wawa Salaries
The pay structure for this company shows it rewards its employees for their excellent performance. For every promotion, there is a higher than average bump in pay compared to most retail store chains.
This contributes to higher employee morale and in fact, this is a big reason why employees at this company give it higher than average ratings in notable review websites such Indeed.com and Glassdoor.com.
Wawa Customer Service Associate Pay
The average hourly pay for a customer service associate at Wawa is $11.40 an hour. At some stores, you are almost guaranteed to work some overtime hours on a fairly regular basis.
Assuming you work 40 hours a week at the above-mentioned rate, you would make approximately $456 a week. Your yearly salary would be approximately $23,712.
There are many workers who have been employed for years as an associate and are now making more than $16 an hour.
Wawa Fuel Associate Pay
The average fuel associate at Wawa is making approximately $11.15 an hour. That amounts to $446 a week and $23,192 in yearly salary.
A hard-working fuel associate who likes to cover for other people’s shifts stands a chance to make an extra $300-$400 a month.
Wawa Night Supervisor Pay
An overnight supervisor makes an average of $15.75 an hour. That’s $630 a week and a yearly salary of $32,760.
Many night supervisors eventually become assistant managers, then general managers. The jump in salary is substantial if you are looking to work hard and get promoted to these positions, using this job as a starting point.

Does Wawa pay weekly?
Wawa, unlike many other retail stores, pays its employees weekly. The pay period for Wawa employees begins on a Monday and ends on a Sunday.
Then, they get paid on the following Friday morning via paycheck or direct deposit. Some employees report they receive their direct deposit on Thursday morning instead of Friday.
Does Wawa hold your first paycheck?
Wawa does not hold your first paycheck. This can sometimes confuse new employees because they are not used to getting their paycheck a week after the actual pay period ends.
In other words, at a normal small business, you might work Monday through Friday and get paid for those last five days on that Friday. That’s not the way it works when it comes to larger companies with many more employees.
Most larger companies have scheduled pay periods and you can ask Wawa human resources for this schedule.
How often does Wawa give raises?
Wawa usually gives raises after a performance review based on 1 year of work. Employees report they receive anywhere between $.25-$.50 an hour in raises.
Some employees have reported that they have been in constant communication with their management after proving themselves to be worthy employees. These people say they have worked so hard and that they have virtually convinced their management to give them raises periodically, such as every 3 to 6 months.
Using this method, you put yourself in a better position to get at least 2 raises a year and perhaps a promotion.
Wawa Employee Call Out Policy
Wawa prefers its employees to call out sick at least eight hours before their scheduled shift by contacting their immediate supervisor. You can get written up for missing even one day if you don’t follow this procedure.
If you’re going to be missing work due to an emergency, you should be approved without any problem as long as you have a doctor’s note.
Keep in mind that every management team runs its store differently than others. The best thing to do is to always be honest with your management and give them plenty of advance notice if you’re going to be calling out.
Does Wawa hire felons?
Wawa generally hires felons depending on the type of offense they committed. If the company believes a candidate’s criminal past can affect their job performance, they will not be hired.
Additionally, if a lot of time has elapsed since the crime was committed and the person was convicted, this company will also take that into consideration.
Break Policy
Wawa has a typical break policy where you can get a paid 15-minute break for every 4 hours worked and a 30-minute unpaid meal break if you work a shift of 6 hours or more.
However, there are exceptions to this rule. It’s important to work closely with your manager to figure out the best way and the best times to take your breaks. Wawa is not obligated to give you any breaks beyond what is outlined by the laws of your state.
This is why it’s important to communicate well with your manager and get on his or her good side by working hard and being dependable.
Dress Code
Wawa issues its employees red or black work shirts with the Wawa logo and a name tag. They also issue a company cap that you must wear while on the job. Employees are expected to purchase their own black or khaki slacks.
Some managers at certain stores allow black jeans. You’ll also have to wear non-slip shoes during your shift.
Black or khaki shorts are also definitely allowed during the hot summer months for fuel associates. In certain stores, customer service associates can also wear black jeans.
The company is also pretty liberal on tattoos, earrings, and unnaturally-colored hair. There are many employees who were tongue and ear piercings without any problem.
